IIUC is the only acronym you should use.

It unlocks each door from the others. It moves the point of view from us to the interlocutor. It allows you to explore in-depth and discover what lies behind the words.

In this essay, you will find out why.

In a world dominated by reaction, some people shine.

They are those people who listen to you, let you speak, allow you to clarify your thoughts. When you come out of these conversations, you are ready to face reality and recognize yourself as a person.

Maybe you can even give back to others what you just experienced.

“If I Understand Correctly…”

IF

These two letters are compelling because they instill doubt. Those who hear them know that we are in the field of hypotheses; therefore opens the way to an answer where the interlocutor’s opinion counts.

Questioning shows us fragile and is the greatest strength that exists.

I

We don’t talk about you, the problem is me! I am the one who did something. It is a natural sedative: “Hey, sorry, help me! Help me better understand what you just said”

You were not wrong to speak, but I am the one that did not understand well.

UNDERSTAND

Finally, we reveal that we want to “understand” that it is an intellectual activity. “Look, what interests me is to understand your point of view better. Nothing else. Let me understand you better.”

It makes complete sense in the full sentence: you are the center of the universe.

CORRECTLY

Here we are trying to clarify the content better. We show good intentions, we want to see if our understanding is correct, and the interlocutor decides what is “good”.

Our goal is clarity. We left the judgment to others.

After starting with “If I understand correctly ..:” you can sincerely help the other clarify their thoughts, emotions, and needs behind the message.

Have a good listening.
